RISE Dance Co believes that being involved in competitive dance develops positive self esteem, confidence, accountability, and leadership in young dancers. In our program, dancers have the opportunity to perform for large crowds and compete against many other teams from all over the state. We will always maintain a high standard of age appropriate routines and uniforms for our dancers. Our goal is not necessarily to take 1st place, but rather we encourage our dancers to do their very best and improve from one competition to the next, and most of all have fun. We believe our philosophy has really made our competitive dancers excel both in the competitive environment, as well as in every class and performance at RISE.

Placement:

Placement in our competitive teams is based on the following criteria: technique, potential, commitment level, enthusiasm, attitude and behavior in class, attendance and stage presence. We are looking for dancers who are excelling in their core classes, extremely motivated, hard working, consistent in their training and technique, and ready to be pushed to the next level.

The number of teams we decide to take this year will depend on number of dancers auditioning, number of dancers who meet the criteria, etc. If either team does not have enough dancers, RISE reserves the right to eliminate one of the groups. If your dancer is interested in doing solos, duets, and trios, they must be on a competitive team at RISE. If the team for their age does not have enough dancers to carry a team, these options are still available for your dancer, after approval and discussion with your instructors.

Attendance & Time Commitment:

Company is a team. Just as sports teams require all players to attend practices, dance companies require their dancers to attend all classes and rehearsals. Absences will not only affect the individual dancer, but the Company and team as a whole.

Each dancer is allowed (5) excused absences, and up to three (3) unexcused absences from Company classes and rehearsals.

*Excused absences receive prior approval from your instructor; advance notice of absence

does not mean it is excused. The following are considered “excused" absences:

                   - Family emergency
                   - Scheduled school programs or performances required for credit

                   - Wedding or religious dedication of you or a member of your family

                   - If you are seriously ill or infectious

                   - Planned vacation

If a dancer reaches more than 3 unexcused absences, instructors will plan a meeting with both the dancer and parents.

Dancers will watch rehearsals in the case of injury or mild illness. These same rules apply to all other classes.

Punctuality is just as important as attendance, please be on time and prepared for class. Two (2) occurrences of tardiness will count as an unexcused absence.

Students should not miss more than the provided absences of any one class per dance season; after which, the dancer may be dismissed from the Company. Dance requires consistent ongoing training, and dancers who excessively miss classes will not be able to perform at the same level as those who have attended all classes regularly. If absences are becoming an issue, it is the teachers right to remove a member from any piece for recital or performances.

Dancers must be present in ALL their classes and rehearsals two weeks prior to every performance or competition. We ask that the month prior to recital, you are attending every class (November and May).

Being a member of a dance company is a privilege and comes with responsibility. Personal accountability is essential for a successful season, and commitment to your other company members is a vital component of this success. When a member of the company is not present, it negatively impacts your entire team.

Dress Code:

Company members must wear appropriate dancewear to every class. Forgetting dancewear, shoes, proper hair and/or wearing inappropriate clothing is not acceptable.

Ballet: Leotard, pink tights, skirt or dance shorts and ballet shoes, hair in bun.

Jazz/Lyrical/Tap: tights, shorts, dance tops – must be form-fitting; no loose t's, Jazz pants or form- fitting shorts are optional and must be approved by the instructor. Hair must be securely pulled up for every class. Jewelry is not permitted while in class.

Hip Hop: Comfortable dance clothes, hair securely pulled up, tennis shoes are required.

Nutrition:

Dancers are expected to maintain a healthy and safe body for dance in order to prevent injury, and be able to sustain the energy levels needed to keep up with the demands of a company level dancer. This includes proper nutrition, getting enough rest, and participating in appropriate conditioning. Dancers and parents should communicate with instructors regarding injuries and provide doctors notes, if an injury is causing them to sit our or miss rehearsals/competitions for multiple weeks. If the teacher believes one of their students is not taking care of their body the teacher has the right to question the dancer and do whatever she/he thinks is best for the student and team.

Solos, duets, & trios must be communicated and submitted to Ms. Caitlin & Ms. Julia no later than September 1st, to allow time to find choreographer, register for competitions, schedule rehearsals, and order costumes. We will not accept any additional dances after this date.

To compete additional routines, dancers are agreeing to the extra commitment of learning choreography and being available for 10, 1 hour rehearsals. Dancers must have weekends available for rehearsals since we hold classes every weekday until 9:00pm.
